The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is a nonprofit organization formed by the mattress industry to operate recycling programs in states that have passed mattress recycling laws. They currently operate in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and California, with the state of Oregon projected to come onboard in 2024.
MRC provides no-cost collection networks statewide for both residential and commercial volume. They invest in research to increase efficiency and recyclability and divert valuable materials from landfills. MRC also addresses illegal dumping through education and outreach. Since 2016 they have recycled more than 12 million mattresses (10 million in the state of California alone) and diverted 450 million pounds of material from landfills.
