Preapproved Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

The Daly City Building Department is now accepting applications to Pre-Review Model Detached ADUs. We have created an Optional Plan Submittal Checklist to help reduce costly changes and or project delays.  Please select the Pre-approved ADU Application link to complete an application. Completed Pre-approved ADU Applications with plans can be submitted by email to  buildingdivision@dalycity.org.

The applications submitted for Pre-Reviewed model plans for detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) shall be submitted by qualified professionals, including designers, architects, and engineers. Choosing a Pre-Reviewed ADU plan is the quickest way for homeowners to visualize the final outcome of adding a secondary unit to their property in Daly City. It is important to note that all pre-approved plans still require site-specific plans, studies, and engineering.

Homeowners are encouraged to contact the Planning Division by calling 650.991.8033 and asking to speak with the Planner of the Day. They can also reach out to the Building Division via email at buildingdivision@dalycity.org to learn more about the requirements for constructing an ADU before starting their project.

To use a pre-reviewed ADU plan, homeowners must hire the designer who developed the plan set. Contact information for designers with pre-reviewed plans is provided below. (Coming soon)

**DISCLAIMER:** Modifications to pre-reviewed ADU plans are not permitted. The designs must be built as originally submitted. While the ADUs may be oriented in any direction, and the floor plans may be mirrored (flipped), any changes to the design, layout, or floor plan will disqualify your drawings from being classified as pre-reviewed. This restriction also applies to any field changes or revisions made during construction.
