Community Police Academy

The Daly City Police Department believes in a collaborative approach to policing. The Daly City Community Police Academy offers transparency into the fundamentals of our police department and how they relate to servicing our community as a whole. Join us for a memorable and rewarding experience to learn about the processes, roles and responsibilities of our staff and gain skills you can use in everyday life.

What to Expect

The Community Police Academy is an 8-week program hosted by Daly City Police Department located at Daly City, City Hall. Classes are every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. — applicants must agree to attend 6 of 8 classes. 

The Community Police Academy is administered and instructed by Daly City Police Officers and Supervisors, who are local law enforcement experts and will provide different perspectives and expertise. The program will have both classroom discussions and lectures, and hands-on learning to maximize your experience. Participants are not expected to perform actual Police Officer duties and may elect to opt out of any practical exercise. A maximum of 20 students are permitted per class. 

Classes will include:

• Orientation to the Daly City Police Department and Law Enforcement
• Community Division and Outreach
• Patrol Operations, Mental Health Clinician Partnership
• Traffic Operations, Drone Program
• Use of Force and De-escalation
• Police K-9 Unit
• S.W.A.T. and the Crisis Negotiation Team 
• And much more!

Requirements

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Applicants must either live or work in Daly City.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• No felony convictions.
• Candidates are expected to attend all classes or agree to 6 of 8 classes.

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest. The current Police Academy course is full. If you are interested in attending a future course, please submit the form below. We will hold your submission and notify you when future dates are confirmed.  

To apply, please fill in the form below and make sure to fill out the Personal Statement explaining why you are interested in participating in the Daly City Community Police Academy. If you do not live in Daly City but work within the City, please indicate this in your Personal Statement.

Once your application is reviewed, you will be notified via email. If you have not received receipt of your application, please contact us at dalycitycpa@dalycity.org. Due to space limitations, not all applicants can attend this course. We will hold your application for the next scheduled course, if appropriate.
