E-Waste Recycling

Electronic waste, or e-waste, includes all electronic products like:

  • Alarm Clocks
  • Cell Phones
  • Computer Hardware
  • DVD/CD/VCR Players
  • Hairdryers
  • Radios
  • Scanners/Printers
  • Small Kitchen Appliances
  • TVs, Etc.

In our time of rapid technological change, many of these items become outdated after just a few years, and residents are left wondering how to dispose of them properly. These items are all too toxic to place in the landfill since they contain heavy metals like mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium. Computers under five years old and other working electronics can generally be reused, so please consider donating them.

Free Recycling Events

The City of Daly City also offers free e-waste collection events twice per year at our Earth Day Recycling Event in the spring and Make A Difference Day in October. Our next event will be on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at City Hall.

Special Note on Cell Phones

All retailers in California that sell cell phones are required to take them back free of charge from consumers. Please also consider giving a new life to your old devices and in particular your cell phones. Many organizations will get your old cell phones into the hands of people who really need them. Before donating cell phones (or computers) for reuse, just remember to delete all files on your hard drive.

Computers under five years old and other working electronics can generally be reused, so please consider donating them.
